Today’s the Day!
I’m writing this first blog post to mark the start of my official maternity leave! “Relieved” is not the word as I’ve spent the last 6 months juggling my full time job – looking after my 4 year old son Harrison & boyfriend Tim, my part time job as a manager in a retail store, setting up Bizmums & being pregnant. Phew!
I’m very fortunate
I often get asked how do I fit it all in & where do I get my energy from and sometimes I wonder myself. I’m extremely lucky to have a very supportive family. Tim is a fantastic dad and supports my ideas by being there for Harrison whenever I’m not able to be. I am also very lucky to have great parents & in-laws who are also a great support.
Thankfully, I’ve had a fairly straight forward pregnancy so far, aside from the couple of weeks of sickness at the beginning and a bout of sciatica a few weeks ago. The tiredness is kicking in a bit now so I’ve taken to having an afternoon snooze on occasion or a half hour power nap when I’m putting Harrison to bed at 7 o’clock! I’m also not so strict on myself about getting up early on days when we don’t have to be out of the house early & making the most of a full night’s sleep while I’m still able to get one!!
Love what you do
There is no secret. I do work hard & spend every night in front of my computer and any spare minute I can on my business but I LOVE what I do, the people that I meet and those I get to help, so it doesn’t feel like work to me.
I firmly believe that the key to keeping everything going is to have a strong enough WHY. For me the WHY is knowing that now, for the next year at least, I will be at home with my family every weekend, that I don’t have to worry about childcare in the holidays, that I will be at Harrison’s sports day and end of term concert and if he’s poorly I can be there too. This ‘WHY’ is the driver to ensure that my business becomes a success.
It’s been a whirlwind 6 months and I wouldn’t have changed a second of it. The people that I’ve met & the Bizmums members who have now become my friends inspire me and give me another reason ‘WHY’ every single day!
I will now be writing a Blog every week until I have my baby and I hope you enjoy reading about my journey! I’d love to hear your experiences of pregnancy with juggling work & family, so feel free to comment below or drop me an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
